Welcome.

Cait Crawshaw

Master of Counselling Student

About

Although fascinated with the vast range of human experience, Cait’s areas of focus include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), neurodivergent parenting, sexual and gender identity, sexuality, grief, life transitions, and caregiver stress.

Cait has lived experience in many of these areas, especially as a neurodivergent parent (late-diagnosed) and a queer, cis-gender woman.

Approach

Her approach to counselling is anti-oppressive, feminist, and person-focused, and she sees clients as the ultimate experts on themselves and their lives.  Cait believes that therapy offers both relief from symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other problems, and also provides the opportunity to better understand ourselves and those we love. For some, therapy can also provide a vehicle for exploring existential concerns related to death, love, and other aspects of the human experience.

Education

Cait Crawshaw is a Master of Counselling student entering the field of counselling psychology after a career in writing.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (political science) degree from the University of Alberta and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from the University of British Columbia.

Additional Training & Experience

In addition to her graduate training, Cait is a dedicated volunteer who has co-facilitated grief groups for teens at Pilgrims Hospice Society in Edmonton and provided more than 50 hours of text-based counselling support for the Canadian non-profit Certified Listeners Society, which supports callers from around the world. These volunteer contributions required ~50 hours of training.

Cait has also completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and workshops on ASD, gender identity, grief and bereavement, and other topics.
